My Approach

It can be easy to think who we are is fixed and unchanging. However, if I believed that I could never do what I do. I believe anyone can learn how to create a more meaningful and joyful life. When people make an investment in themselves through learning and practicing concrete skills, change is possible. It’s not always easy, of course. It demands a growing awareness of vulnerabilities and strengths. Like any skill, it takes practice. Skills education is like learning and speaking a foreign language. Thankfully, anyone can learn to become fluent in living skillfully.

Whether I am working with individuals or groups my goal is to foster a safe, authentic, and collaborative environment. I work to create a challenging learning atmosphere while providing empathy and validation, learning ways to live skillfully.

In my practice, I draw upon evidence-based modalities, peer-reviewed studies, based on extensive research that proves the success of treatment. Alongside skills-based Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) I integrate Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to create a well-rounded approach.  I work to tailor my approach to fit the goals, needs, and personality of the individual or business organization.

The therapeutic alliance I build allows for both exploring the many factors that made people who they are, while providing the concrete tools for living a meaningful and joyful life today. As I work with people on their struggles and hopes my goal is to help people learn and practice the practical tools to cope with the past and look hopefully to the future.
